Five Pest Control Coverage Questions

to Discuss with Your Clients

When reviewing your pest control operator's insurance policy, consider the following questions:

1. Does your client's General Liability policy include E&O coverage?
If your pest control client misses the signs of termite damage or a mouse infestation, they could be held liable for any harmful situation. Errors and Omissions can provide coverage in instances where negligence claims are filed by its customers.

2. Does their General Liability policy include Pollution?
Pesticides used moderately may not impact people or the environment negatively. However, if these chemicals are accidentally spilled in large quantities, this could be considered as an incident of pollution.

3. Does their General Liability policy include Care, Custody, or Control (CCC), including real property?
Many pest control operators may not be aware that their CGL policy does not provide coverage for damage to property of a third party while that property is in the "care, custody or control" of the contractor.

Ryan Specialty's Pest Control program offers access to General Liability including E&O, Job-site Pollution, Transit Pollution, and CCC. Coverage can include blanket additional insured and blanket waiver of subrogation forms, most widely accepted in the industry.

4. Does your client's Business Auto offer telematics coverage?
Telematics technology can positively impact the insured by improving the visibility of the insured's driving habits and reducing the frequency of auto-related claims and injuries when driving behaviors are corrected. Our Business Auto coverage with telematics technology may be available for select risks at no cost or a reduced cost to the insured.

5. Does their Umbrella / Excess Liability carrier offer limits high enough to satisfy the insured's contract requirements?
Our program's Umbrella /Excess Liability offers coverage extending over the Professional Liability and Pollution forms. Plus, we have in-house binding authority up to $10M.
